Camellia and Blueberry plants from Trehane Nursery & The Dorset Blueberry Company
Quality plants - Every Time
The Trehane family has been associated with both camellias and blueberries for three generations, since grandfather Trehane reclaimed six acres of swamp and woodland in the 1940s and 1950s.
Now under the management of the third generation, our business is still focused on those two core product areas.
From introducing blueberries as a fresh fruit to the UK originally, back in 1949, Trehane's is now the leading organic blueberry producer, supplying many tons of blueberries every year to Marks and Spencers, Abel & Cole and directly to the consumer at numerous events across the country. The family also operates a very popular Pick Your Own blueberries operation from its base in East Dorset.
Blueberries are now the second most popular soft fruit behind strawberries and now ahead of raspberries. Blueberries are a fantastic fruit to eat as they are quick, convenient and versatile.
Trehane's is also widely recognised as a camellias expert. Since the 1950s, we have been at the forefront of the international camellia industry. It was grandfather Trehane who introduced the williamsii hybrid camellias to this country and helped camellias to become popular as an everyday garden plant. Jennifer Trehane, his daughter, is a world authority on camellia cultivation, having published two books on the subject. She has also stood as Vice President of the International Camellia Society and is a regular speaker at garden clubs, lecture halls and show helpdesks around the world.
Having passed to the third generation, David Trehane is now bringing modern technology and up to date growing systems to the business. In addition to increasing available stock over the next few years, our nursery is now entering an exciting phase of new camellia variety introductions to Europe from all over the world, continuing our position at the forefront of the camellia industry If you'd like to keep up to date with our developments, the best way to do this is by joining our Privilege Club at the bottom of this page
The business is also active in the food industry. Having experienced a blueberry crop disaster from a hailstorm in 2000, a bakery was constructed to manufacture products from our damaged or second grade fruit. The bakery operation now produces delicious blueberry pies and other food products right through the year. These are sold primarily at farmers markets and shows across the south of England, including most of the farmers markets operated by award winning Hampshire Farmers Markets. We also take our baked range to food festivals in Abergavenny, Lincoln, Plymouth, Dartmouth, Wimborne and from 2012, increasing numbers of county shows. We also supply a selection of our products by mail order through our online shop. See 'GOURMET FOOD' above
